CED PRESIDENT

PRESIDENT MEETING WITH HEALTH COMMISSIONER ON 25 MAY

On 25 May, the CED President Dr Marco Landi met with the Commissioner for Health Dr Vytenis Andriukaitis. Dr Landi presented the CED work in the areas of health workforce, antimicrobial resistance and public health (sugar). He also shared the CED concerns with regard to standardization of healthcare delivery and corporate ownership of dental practice. Read more

CED BOARD

CED BOARD MEETING ON 16 SEPTEMBER 2016

On 16 September, the CED Board met in Brussels to discuss current work and EU political developments. The Board also examined, among others, Brexit and implications for CED, partial access, amalgam and mercury, the results of EDSA Survey, the Commission’s Proposal for Amending Directive on Waste and Antibiotics.

CED GENERAL MEETING

CED GENERAL MEETING IN THE HAGUE

Representatives of CED Member and Observer organisations met in The Hague, The Netherlands on 20-21 May 2016 for the first General Meeting under the chairmanship of CED President Dr Marco Landi. The meeting was hosted by the Royal Dutch Dental Association (KNMT) in the context of the Dutch Presidency of the EU Council. Read more

CED WORKING GROUPS (WG)

WG EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (EPQ) ONLINE MEETINGS

On 3 June, the Education and Professional Qualification Working Group met online to discuss the update to CED resolution on Annex 5.3.1 of Directive 2005/36/EC. CED is consulting with ADEE on this process. The Working Group discussed the resolution on the profile of the future dentist, concurring to proceed with a shorter version of the document prepared by the WG Chair during the online meeting. CED AT EHEALTH WEEK 2016

On 8 June, CED Vice-President and chair of CED Working Group eHealth Dr Piret Väli gave a presentation at the eHealth Week 2016 in Amsterdam on the impact of eHealth on the practice of dentistry. This was the first time the CED was involved in the eHealth Week as a speaker. Read more

WG TOOTH WHITENING: REPORT AND ONLINE MEETING

On 27 June, CED published the third and final report on undesirable effects of tooth whitening. This report covers the period from 2014-2015 and was prepared under an agreement signed between the CED and the European Commission on 31 March 2010, in the framework of the future regulation on the use of tooth whitening products (Directive 2011/84/EU later repealed by Regulation 1223/2009). CHAIR OF WG EPQ PAULO MELO ATTENDS THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR DENTAL EDUCATION IN EUROPE (ADEE)

The Chair of WG EPQ Paulo Melo attended the 42th ADEE Annual Meeting “Science and the competent dentist: an inter-professional perspective” that took place from the 24th to the 26th of August in the University of Barcelona. Read more

CHAIR OF WG EPQ PAULO MELO PARTICIPATES IN EDSA MEETING

On 24 August the Chair of WG EPQ Paulo Melo participated in a roundtable organised by EDSA at their 58th meeting. The roundtable was attended also by ADEE representatives. The CED is following closely the results of the EDSA survey on clinical training and already met EDSA President Luca Banjsak and past President Marco Mazavet EDSA on 3 June to discuss the preliminary results. WG INFECTION CONTROL & WASTE MANAGEMENT MEETING

On 26 September, the WG met online to follow-up on the EU developments in connection to the amendments to the Waste Directive and discussed the CED related activities. The CED welcomes the initiative of the European Commission to stimulate Europe's transition towards a circular economy. Read more

WG AMALGAM & OTHER RESTORATIVE MATERIALS - EU LEGISLATIVE PROCESS ON MERCURY REGULATION

CED supports a phase-down of dental amalgam with strong prevention strategies and oral promotion, the use of pre-dosed capsules and mandatory separators. CED does not support a phase-out or a ban of the use of dental amalgam, because further research is needed to determine whether amalgam is more dangerous than alternative materials. Read more

CED BOARD TASK FORCES (BTF)

MEETINGS OF BTF INTERNAL MARKET

The Board Task Force (BTF) Internal Market met in Brussels on 7 March and focused on several issues such as the national regulations on access to profession, Single Market Strategy, European Semester, transposition of Directive 2013/55/EU and General Data Protection Regulation. Read more

CED-ADEE TASK FORCE ONLINE MEETING

On 20 June CED - ADEE TASK FORCE met online to discuss the revised CED resolution on Annex 5.3.1 of Directive 2005/36/E.C. (PQD), proposing further changes to the document. The participants also discussed about the transposition of Directive 2013/55/EU at national level. Read more

CED BRUSSELS OFFICE

DENTAL ASSOCIATIONS’ VISITS TO CED BRUSSELS OFFICE

On 12 May the Norwegian Dental Association visited the CED Brussels Office. During the visit, CED Brussels Office presented the CED’s structure, its mission and its involvement in EU projects, its publications and the key issues for the present and for the future. Brussels Office also presented different issues that could affect particularly Norway. Read more

JOINT ACTION HEALTH WORKFORCE PLANNING AND FORECASTING (JA HWF)

On 3 and 4 May, the CED Secretary General, Nina Bernot and the CED Senior Policy Officer Aleksandra Sanak attended the closing event of the JA HWF "Towards a sustainable health workforce for Europe" in Mons (Belgium). During the event, the results obtained during the three-year cooperation, a vision for future cooperation, and the priorities for the future EU work on health workforce were presented. Read more

CED AT “REFORMING REGULATION OF PROFESSIONS” CONFERENCE AT THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION

On 18 May, CED Senior Policy Officer Aleksandra Sanak attended the “Reforming regulation of professions: results of mutual evaluation and way forward” conference.  The participants discussed the mutual evaluation of regulated professions, its results and National Action Plans to address outdated or disproportionate regulation. On 6 September, CED Senior Policy Officer Aleksandra Sanak attended the conference “What problems, what solutions for service providers who want to go cross-border?” organised by the European Commission. Read more

Dear CED Members, I am Cecilia Prunas, I come from Rome, Italy, and I will be responsible for the CED Communications for the next four months.
