CED BOARD

CED BOARD MEETING IN MALTA

On 25 May, the CED Board met in Malta to discuss current work and EU political developments. Among the topics examined, the Board focused on the Proposal for a Proportionality Test before Adoption of New Regulation for Professions, CED Code of Ethics, and the Resolution on the Profile of the Dentist of the Future.

CED GENERAL MEETING

On 26/27 May 2017 representatives of CED member and observer organisations met in Malta for a regular six-monthly General Meeting, under the chairmanship of President Dr. Marco Landi. The meeting was hosted by the Dental Association of Malta. Read more

CED PRESIDENT

President attends the FDI-ERO Plenary Session in Geneva

On 21/22 of April 2017, Dr Marco Landi attended the FDI-ERO Plenary Session in Geneva where he presented the leading political role of CED, the CED relationship with EU institutions, increasing joint activities with CPME-PGEU-FVE, stronger collaboration with ADEE and EDSA, and finally the dialogue with industry dealer (FIDE-ADDE) stressing the CED independence from any influence of the market.

President attends THE ADEE/ADEA Conference in London

On 9 May 2017, Dr Marco Landi attended the ADEE/ADEA Conference ‘Shaping the future of dental education’, where he met a range of stakeholders from academia. He also used the opportunity to meet with Dr Nigel Carter, the President of the Platform for Better Oral Health in Europe to exchange information and ideas.

President attends the AIO Congress

On 15/17 June 2017, Dr Marco Landi attended the 9th Associazione Italiana Odontoiatri (AIO) International Congress (CHIA 2017) in Sardinia.

CED WORKING GROUPS (WG)

MEETING OF WORKING GROUP ORAL HEALTH

On 3 April, the Working Group Oral Health met online to discuss the public event on integrated care and the key messages. In addition, the members brainstormed on potential topics for 2018. The next meeting is scheduled to take place on 7 September 2017 in Brussels.

MEETING OF WORKING GROUP INFECTION CONTROL AND WASTE MANAGEMENT

On 20 March, the Working Group Infection Control and Waste Management met in Brussels to analyse the amendments adopted by the European Parliament on 14 March 2017 on the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Directive 2008/98/EC on waste. As a result, the group has amended the lobby package and sent updated version to CED members. The next online meeting will take place in September/October 2017, exact date still to be defined.

MEETING OF WORKING GROUP MEDICAL DEVICES

On 19 June, the Working Group Medical Devices met to discuss in detail the implication of Medical Devices Regulation on dentistry of particular interest were Unique Device Identification System, Custom-made devices, Classifications rules, Single-use devices, Implant card and Nanomaterials. The next meeting will take place in October, exact date still to be defined.

MEETING OF WORKING GROUP EHEALTH

On 22 June, the Working Group eHealth had an online meeting to discuss the results of the questionnaire on the use of ePrescriptions, CED contribution to the group on New Balances – Side Effects and CED collaboration with the Estonian Presidency, particularly the Digital Health Society Declaration. The next meeting will take place on 6 October 2017 in Brussels.

CED AND THE EU

MEETING AT DG GROW

On 2 May, Prof Paulo Melo, CED Board Member and Chair of the Working Group on Education and Professional Qualifications met with representatives of DG GROW, European Commission to discuss an update on the revision of Annex V.3/5.3.1 of Directive 2005/36/EC, guidance document on common training frameworks, mutual evaluation and transparency exercise and continuous professional development (CPD).

ONE HEALTH LETTER

Together with European Dental Students' Association (EDSA) and the professional and student organisations representing the medical doctors, the veterinarians and students, CED has signed the One Health letter inviting the deans of European dental, medical and veterinary schools to work collaboratively under the ‘One Health’ concept to tackle current and future challenges for our professions and the society. CED JOINS THE DIGITAL HEALTH SOCIETY GROUP

In May 2017, CED was invited to join the Digital Health Society Group - an initiative of the upcoming Estonian Presidency. The Ministry of Social Affairs of Estonia is launching the Digital Health Society (DHS) Declaration, as a call for actions about the strategies and actions to achieve the digital transformation of healthcare systems. This Declaration will be developed collectively through the Digital Health Society group.

BZÄK EUROPATAG

The German Dental Chamber – Bundeszahnärztekammer (BZÄK) – hosted its annual Europe Day (Europatag) on June 7 in Brussels. Lea Pfefferle attended the half-day event with a focus on the proposed proportionality test before adoption of new regulation for professions and its impact on the liberal (health) professions. A lively debate showed that Members of the European Parliament, European Commission Officials and representatives of liberal professions do not agree on the topic. Read more

CONTRIBUTIONS BY CED MEMBERS

WE ARE DENTISTRY CAMPAIGN: CELEBRATING DENTISTS’ ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE UK

The British Dental Association has launched a campaign to celebrate the remarkable contributions dentists make to UK healthcare. The launch video features the stories of five UK dentists, featuring just some of the many roles that dentists take on every day. Read more

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND NEW PRESIDIUM IN THE HUNGARIAN DENTAL ASSOCIATION

As in the previous year, the Hungarian Dental Association organized the Scientific Meeting entitled Perspectives in Perio-Implantology and Comprehensive Dentistry in Szeged on 12-13 May this year. The meeting attracted over 570 attendants from Hungary and, with a scientific program involving nine renowned plenary invited speakers from five countries in Europe and overseas as well. Read more
