CED publishes Resolution on Dental Practice and Third Parties in Europe

The Council of European Dentists is concerned about the growth of third party payers in the field of provision of dental care and treatment and its implications for oral health policyThe CED has therefore passed a resolution that sets out some important principles and policies which prioritise the welfare of patients and respect the ethical and professional responsibilities and rights of the dental profession.

It is crucial that all stakeholders acknowledge that the primary relationship in the delivery of dental care is between the dentist and the patient, who collaborate to develop strategies to ensure beneficial long term health outcomes. Third party payers must not influence this relationship in any way that diminishes a patient’s right to achieve long term optimum oral health.
