Conference on quality, safety and cost-effectiveness

On 3 and 4 November, the CED Policy Officer Aleksandra Sanak attended a conference on 'Quality, safety and cost-effectiveness' organised by the Italian Ministry of Health in Rome.

The conference represented the opportunity to discuss and analyse different dimensions of quality and safety, taking into account the need to combine the adoption of policies for the improvement of the quality and safety with a suitable economic evaluation and the need for further analysis in the light of the 2011/24/EU Directive.

The participants had also the chance to hear about the future Council Conclusions on patient safety and quality of care, including the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance published on 1 December, 2014 the Expert Panel on effective ways of investing in health (EXPH) opinion on the Future EU agenda on quality of healthcare with a special emphasis on patient safety, the EU policies on patient safety and quality of care as well as the priorities of the future Latvian Presidency of the EU Council.
