EMI TTIP Briefing
On 29 January 2015, the European Movement International (EMI) organised a briefing with the European Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly, on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). The massive participation of stakeholders was not surprising, considering the unprecedented public interest that this issue is having in Europe. If agreed, the TTIP will be the biggest bilateral free trade agreement in history.
Ms O’Reilly reported on the results of her public consultation on the TTIP negotiations launched in July 2014 and informed about her ten recommendations to the European Commission to further increase transparency on TTIP. The recommendations relate to public access to consolidated negotiating texts, greater proactive disclosure of TTIP documents and increased transparency as regards meetings that Commission officials hold on TTIP with business organisations, lobby groups or NGOs (see EU Ombudsman’s decision here and press release here). This briefing was attended by CED Policy Officer Sara Roda. Back
