CED supports European Antibiotic Awareness Day

13/ October
2015

The CED is a partner working closely with the European Center for Disease and Control (ECDC) in raising awareness to the prudent use of antibiotics as well as of everyone’s role in keeping antibiotics effective for future generations. Citizens are being encouraged to always follow their doctor’s advice on when and how to use antibiotics.

This year the CED was invited to make a video pledge answering to the question: "What is your organisation’s contribution to fighting antibiotic resistance?" . The CED accepted the challenge (and more information will be made available to you soon)!

The CED will also attend the press event marking the European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) 2015 on 16 November in Brussels, where the latest EU-wide data on antibiotic resistance and on consumption will be launched by ECDC.

On the day (18 November), the ECDC is organising a Global and European Twitter Chat. Everyone is invited to take part using #EAAD !

Health professionals have a key role to play:

  • in primary care, by ensuring that patients are well informed about when and how to take antibiotics, especially during the winter season;
  • in hospitals, by ensuring the correct prescribing, dosage, duration and selection of antibiotics.
