CED promotes European Antibiotic Awareness Day (18 November)

23/ September
2016

The European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) is an annual European public health initiative established in 2008 and held on 18 November.  It is led by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) with  support from the European Commission, European Parliament, EU Member States and non-governmental health stakeholders across the EU and aims to raise awareness about the threats of antibiotic resistance to public health and the responsible use of antibiotics to maintain their efficacy.

As a partner of ECDC, once again the CED has reaffirmed its commitment to promote the EAAD 2016 campaign that, this year, focuses on highlighting the wise use of antibiotics in hospitals. Member States are promoting the EAAD at a national level and we hope that dentists throughout Europe will join in with this very important event.

The CED will attend the press event organised by ECDC on 18 November in Brussels, and will participate in the live Twitter chat during the event and to the Global Twitter Chat on the World Antibiotic Awareness Week (14-20 November), launched for the first time last year by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Everyone is invited to participate in the ECDC campaign and to join the Global Chat using the hashtag #EAAD.
